Dr. Arjoon Suddhoo

Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK

 

Dr. Arjoon Suddhoo is a distinguished international leader in science, innovation, governance, and higher education, currently serving as Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, where he oversees corporate services, development divisions, strategic planning (2025–2030), and transformative initiatives in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digital governance. A British national, he holds a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics from the University of Manchester, an MBA with Distinction from the University of Liverpool, and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. His career spans senior academic, governmental, and corporate leadership roles, including two terms as Chairman of Air Mauritius, Executive Director of the Mauritius Research & Innovation Council for two decades, and Chairman of the Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency. Earlier, he held research and managerial positions at Rolls-Royce Aerospace in the United Kingdom. Internationally recognized for advancing ocean economy strategy, renewable energy, science and technology diplomacy, and national innovation systems, Dr. Suddhoo has led major policy frameworks, institutional developments, and multidisciplinary research portfolios exceeding 650 projects, while also contributing extensively to postgraduate supervision, online MBA education, and scholarly publications across engineering, education policy, and sustainable development.
